Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been reported:

1. A receptor-type PTP with a short extracellular domain, a single transmembrane region, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains.
2. A nonreceptor-type isoform containing a distinct hydrophilic N-terminus.

Studies in mice suggest regulatory roles of this PTP in RAS-related signaling pathways, cytokine-induced STAT signaling, and activation of voltage-gated K⁺ channels.
