It is targeted by drugs used in the treatment of schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease.
Mutations are associated with behavioral phenotypes including autonomic nervous system dysfunction, ADHD, and novelty seeking.
The gene contains a polymorphic number (2–10 copies) of tandem 48 nt repeats; the sequence shown contains four repeats.
