Target Information

Cytochrome P450 superfamily proteins are monooxygenases involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and lipids.
CYP4F3, a 60 kDa protein, is a member of this family and contains a conserved heme-binding domain near the C-terminus. It catalyzes the ω-hydroxylation of LTB4 and is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum, playing a key role in LTB4 inactivation and inflammation control.

CYP4F3 exists in two isoforms:

  • CYP4F3A (neutrophil isoform): Expressed in neutrophils and myeloid cells, catalyzes microsomal ω-hydroxylation of LTB4, and interacts with CD11b and myeloperoxidase to regulate myeloid cell development.
  • CYP4F3B (liver isoform): Converts arachidonic acid to 20-HETE, which activates PKC and is implicated in cell proliferation, vascular tone, and natriuresis.
