Product Specific Information
The HB5 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD21, an approximately 145 kDa type I transmembrane protein. CD21 is expressed by mature B cells, follicular dendritic cells, and a subset of epithelial cells, serving as a receptor for complement component C3d and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
Together with CD19 and CD81, CD21 forms a multimolecular complex with BCR, playing a role in B cell activation.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested on normal human peripheral blood cells. Use at 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.
Excitation: 488–561 nm
Emission: 578 nm

Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered
Target Information
CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments and plays a key role in immunocomplex uptake, memory B cell survival, and humoral immune response. It also functions as a receptor for EBV and prions, facilitating neuroinvasion after peripheral exposure.
Soluble CD21 (sCD21) retains ligand-binding ability after shedding from lymphocytes.
CD21 interacts with CD23 and associates with CD19, CD81, and Leu13, forming a signal-transduction complex involved in B cell activation.
Genetic variations in CD21 are linked to systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9).
Alternative splicing produces different isoforms of CD21.
