Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody eBio4E3 reacts with an epitope shared by mouse CD21 (CR2) and CD35 (CR1).
CD21 and CD35 are alternatively spliced transcripts from the Cr2 gene, producing cell-surface proteins of 145 and 190 kDa.
These are expressed on mature B cells, but not on thymocytes, peripheral T cells, erythrocytes, or platelets.
CD21 acts as a receptor for complement component C3d and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and together with CD19 and CD81, participates in B-cell activation.
Cr2 deficient mice show impaired inflammatory and humoral immune responses.
Antibody clones eBio4E3 and eBio8D9 bind different epitopes and do not cross-block each other.

Target Information

CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2) binds C3 complement fragments and plays roles in immune complex uptake, memory B cell survival, and humoral immune response maintenance.
It also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and participates in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells.
A soluble form (sCD21) retains ligand binding ability.

CD35 encodes a membrane glycoprotein found on blood cells, glomerular podocytes, and follicular dendritic cells.
It acts as a receptor for complement components C3b and C4b, regulating complement cascade activity.
Variation in CD35 forms the Knops blood group system. A secreted plasma form exists but is not fully characterized.
