Target Information
MAP2K2 (MEK2) is a dual specificity serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in mitogen growth factor signal transduction.
Mitogen activated protein kinase 2 (MEK2 or MAPKK2) activates ERK1 and ERK2 by phosphorylating residues within the threonine/glutamate/tyrosine (TEY) motif in the activation loop.
MEK1 and MEK2 are activated by dual phosphorylation on serine 218 and 222 within the activation loop.
Threonine 292 of MEK1 is phosphorylated by ERK2, serving as a negative feedback loop suppressing MEK1 activation.
