Target Information
Autophagy is a process of bulk degradation of cellular proteins through an autophagosomic-lysosomal pathway, essential for normal growth control and nutrient preservation under starvation. It is negatively regulated by TOR (Target of rapamycin) via phosphorylation of APG1.
ATG2B, one of two ATG2 homologs, is crucial for autophagosome formation and lipid droplet regulation. High mutation rates of ATG2B have been observed in gastric and colorectal carcinomas, suggesting a role in cancer development through autophagy deregulation.
