Product Specific Information

This antibody detects all N1 isoforms, but fails to detect the N4 protein. It also detects the X, Y, and Z splice variants.

Target Information

Agrin is a molecule that resides in the basal lamina of muscle cells and directs key events in postsynaptic differentiation. It is responsible for clustering of acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) on the cell surface and their localization to the neuromuscular junction. Several Agrin variants arise from alternative mRNA splicing. Splice forms with inserts at two sites in the carboxy terminus designated y and z show high affinity for AChRs, while those lacking these inserts associate weakly. Muscle alpha-dystroglycan may act as the receptor for agrin clustering activity, though this remains debated. Tyrosine phosphorylation is implicated as an early step in AChR aggregation, and the receptor tyrosine kinase MuSK interacts with Agrin and is localized to developing muscle.
