Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is one of several proteins incorporated into the cornified cell envelope during keratinocyte terminal differentiation in the outer epidermal layers. It interacts with periplakin, a precursor of the cornified envelope. Its localization and insolubility suggest roles in epithelial differentiation, epidermal integrity, and barrier formation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
