Target Information
Actin is a ubiquitous protein essential for filament formation that constitutes a major part of the cytoskeleton. It interacts with myosin to facilitate muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis. In vertebrates, actin isoforms are classified into three groups: alpha, beta, and gamma.
- Alpha actins: Found in muscle tissues, forming the contractile apparatus.
- Beta and gamma actins: Coexist in most cell types, contributing to cytoskeletal structure and internal cell motility.
