Target Information
BRD4 is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear phosphoprotein and a member of the BET protein family. It is the human homolog of mouse MCAP and contains two N-terminal bromodomains, a central ET-domain, and several kinase-like motifs in its N-terminus.
BRD4 is expressed as two isoforms; the longer variant includes a C-terminal region rich in proline and glutamine. It functions as a chromatin-binding protein induced by growth stimuli and participates in cell cycle regulation through interactions with RFC and SPA-1.
BRD4 also plays a role in chromosomal dynamics during mitosis and serves as a cellular target for the E2 protein of papillomavirus.
