Target Information
Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain, where they play major roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their expression in regions of active synaptic remodeling such as the cerebellum, hippocampus, and olfactory system suggests involvement in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1 was initially identified as a dihydropyrimidinase expressed exclusively in the brain and is associated with neurotrophin (NT) 3-induced neurite formation and outgrowth. Its localization shifts from axonal to somatodendritic as neurons mature, indicating roles in both early neuronal differentiation and later neuronal survival or apoptosis.
