Target Information
Aconitase 1 (ACO1), also known as iron regulatory element binding protein 1 (IREB1), is a cytosolic protein that binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs). It plays a central role in cellular iron homeostasis and also exhibits aconitase enzymatic activity. IREB1 regulates ferritin and transferrin receptor mRNA translation and stability in response to iron levels, maintaining iron balance within the cell.
