Target Information
CYP2R1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. CYP2R1 functions as a microsomal vitamin D hydroxylase, converting vitamin D into the active ligand for the vitamin D receptor. Mutations in CYP2R1 are associated with selective 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency.
