This antibody has specificity for Human Complement C5a.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is the fifth component of complement, which plays an important role in inflammatory and cell killing processes. This protein is composed of alpha and beta polypeptide chains linked by a disulfide bridge. An activation peptide, C5a, is an anaphylatoxin with potent spasmogenic and chemotactic activity, derived from the alpha chain via cleavage with a convertase. The C5b cleavage product can form a complex with complement component C6, forming the basis of the membrane attack complex.
Mutations in this gene cause complement component 5 deficiency, leading to susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, and have also been linked to liver fibrosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
