Target Information
The Adenylate Kinase 4 (AK4) gene encodes a mitochondrial matrix enzyme belonging to the adenylate kinase family. These enzymes regulate the adenine and guanine nucleotide balance in cells by catalyzing phosphate group transfer among nucleotides.
There are five known vertebrate isozymes, each with tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 17, and three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
Sequence alignment indicates the gene (NM_013410, NM_203464, NM_001005353) is located on chromosome 1.
