Target Information

TEF1 (Transcriptional enhancer factor 1) is a nuclear protein belonging to the TEA/ATTS domain family, expressed in numerous cell types and involved in regulating gene expression.
TEF family proteins have a conserved DNA-binding domain. TEF-1 binds to GT-IIC, SphI/II, and M-CAT sequences, and also to the proximal regulatory element (PRE) of transforming growth factor-alpha, which is overexpressed in many cancers.
TEF-1 represses transcription in placental cells and is phosphorylated by PKC isozymes both in vivo and in vitro, reducing its DNA-binding capability. This suggests a potential role in PKC inhibition and tumorigenesis. Dimerization of TEF-1 may be essential for its transcriptional regulatory function.
