Background
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit. The protein belongs to the L10P family and is a neutral phosphoprotein whose C-terminal end is nearly identical to those of acidic ribosomal phosphoproteins P1 and P2. P0 protein interacts with P1 and P2 to form a pentameric complex (P1/P2 dimers and a P0 monomer). It is located in the cytoplasm. Transcript variants from alternative splicing encode the same protein.
