Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
The cytochrome c oxidase (COX) family of proteins functions as the final electron donor in the respiratory chain, driving a proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane and producing water. The mammalian COX apoenzyme is a dimer composed of 13 subunits, both mitochondrial and nuclear. COX5 is the heme A-containing chain of the oxidase family that converts one molecule of oxygen and four molecules of hydrogen into two molecules of water.
Two isoforms of COX5 exist: COX5a and COX5b. Under high oxygen conditions, COX5a (aerobic isoform) transcription increases, while under low oxygen conditions, COX5b (hypoxic isoform) transcription is upregulated to maximize COX apoenzyme turnover.
