Target Information
Autophagy-related protein 16L1 is encoded by the ATG16L gene located on human chromosome 2. Also known as WD30 or IBD10 (Inflammatory Bowel Disease 10), this protein forms a complex with ATG12 and ATG5, known as the Atg16L complex (~800 kDa).
This complex facilitates the coupling or lipidation of LC3 to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), a key step in autophagy. The ATG16L complex, along with other ATGs such as ATG18 and ATG21, prevents premature cleavage of ATG8-PE by the cysteine protease Atg4 until autophagosome completion.
