Target Information
BRD4 is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear phosphoprotein and a member of the BET protein family. It is the human homolog of mouse MCAP and consists of two N-terminal bromodomains, a central ET-domain, and several kinase-like motifs in its N-terminus.
BRD4 is expressed as two isoforms; the longer variant has a C-terminal region rich in proline and glutamine. It acts as a chromatin-binding protein whose expression increases in response to growth stimuli. BRD4 interacts with proteins such as RFC and SPA-1 to regulate cell growth and chromosomal dynamics during mitosis. It also serves as a cellular target for the E2 protein of papillomavirus.
