ErbB3 (c-erbB-3/HER-3)는 type I 성장 인자 수용체 패밀리에 속하며, heregulin 계열의 리간드와 결합합니다. ErbB3는 전립선, 방광, 유방, 위, 췌장, 대장 등 다양한 종양에서 과발현됩니다. Heregulin 및 EGF는 c-erbB-3의 티로신 인산화를 서로 다른 정도로 자극합니다.
ErbB3 유전자는 인간 염색체 12q13에 위치하며, 6.2 kb mRNA로 전사되어 160/180 kDa 당단백질로 번역됩니다. 이 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 이소폼을 생성하며, 다른 EGF 수용체 패밀리 구성원과 이합체를 형성하여 세포 증식 또는 분화를 유도하는 신호 경로를 활성화합니다. 일부 이소폼은 세포막 영역이 결여되어 세포 외부로 분비되며, 막 결합형 수용체의 활성을 조절하는 역할을 합니다.
