MEF2C는 근육 특이적 유전자의 조절 영역에 존재하는 MEF2 요소에 특이적으로 결합하는 전사 활성화 인자입니다. 심장 형성과 근형성, 혈관 발달에 관여하며, 해마 의존적 학습과 기억에 필수적입니다. 신경 발달, 피질의 전기적 활동 조절, 골수 내 B세포 림프구 발생 및 혈소판 발달에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 신경 발생 및 피질 구조 발달에도 관여할 수 있습니다. Isoform 3 및 4는 억제 도메인이 없어 Isoform 1, 2보다 활성이 높습니다.
