Target Information
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase is a tetrameric glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate. Vertebrates have three aldolase isozymes (A, B, and C), which differ in electrophoretic and catalytic properties, representing distinct proteins encoded by related housekeeping genes with developmentally regulated expression. Aldolase A is predominant in adult muscle, Aldolase B in liver, kidney, and intestine, and Aldolase C in brain and nervous tissue. Defects in ALDOB cause hereditary fructose intolerance.
