Target Information

MMP13 (collagenase 3) plays a role in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins, including fibrillar collagen, fibronectin, tenascin-C (TNC), and aggrecan (ACAN).
It cleaves triple-helical collagens (types I, II, and III) with highest activity toward soluble type II collagen, and can also degrade collagen types IV, XIV, and X.
MMP13 is involved in wound healing, tissue remodeling, cartilage degradation, bone development, bone mineralization, and ossification.
It is required for normal embryonic bone development and ossification.
Mutations in the MMP13 gene can lead to spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Missouri type, metaphyseal anadysplasia 1, and metaphyseal dysplasia Sphar type.
