Target Information
TYR-related proteins, TRP1 and TRP2, are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes. These TRPs share a transmembrane region, two metal-binding regions, and a cysteine-rich epidermal growth factor motif, and are localized in the melanosomal membrane.
Each TRP has distinct catalytic activity and contributes individually to melanin biopolymer biosynthesis. TRPs form a multi-enzyme complex, stabilizing TYR expression in melanocytes.
