Protein arginine N-methyltransferase 6 (PRMT6)
PRMT6 is a type I PRMT that catalyzes the formation of omega-N monomethylarginine and asymmetric dimethylarginine on glycine- and arginine-rich substrates. It acts as a transcriptional coactivator for several steroid hormone receptors (ESR1, ESR2, PGR, NR3C1) and promotes fasting-induced transcriptional activation of gluconeogenic genes via methylation of CRTC2. It may also contribute to innate immunity against HIV-1 by methylating and impairing viral proteins such as Tat, Rev, and Nucleocapsid protein p7.
