Target Information
Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) family, which includes SOCS-1 through SOCS-7 and CIS. These proteins contain an N-terminal variable region, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal SOCS box. They form part of a negative feedback loop that modulates cytokine signal transduction through STAT-induced transcriptional mechanisms. SOCS gene transcription is rapidly induced by cytokines, and each member inhibits signaling in distinct ways.
