Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) encodes a membrane-bound glycoprotein functioning as an enzyme essential for thyroid gland activity. It catalyzes iodination of tyrosine residues in thyroglobulin and the formation of phenoxy-ester bonds between iodinated tyrosines, leading to thyroid hormone production (thyroxine and triiodothyronine).
Mutations in this gene cause disorders such as congenital hypothyroidism, congenital goiter, and thyroid hormone organification defect IIA. Several transcript variants exist, though some remain incompletely characterized.
Diseases associated with TPO include Thyroid Dyshormonogenesis 2A and Congenital Hypothyroidism.
