Target Information
Replication factor C (RFC) is an essential DNA polymerase accessory protein required for various aspects of DNA metabolism, including DNA replication, repair, and telomere maintenance. RFC forms a heteropentameric complex that recognizes primer-template junctions and loads PCNA onto DNA in an ATP-dependent manner.
All RFC subunits share related sequences (RFC boxes) with nucleotide-binding motifs. Four of the five RFC genes (RFC1–RFC4) contain ATP-binding motifs. Smaller RFC proteins (RFC2–RFC5) interact with Rad24, while RFC1 does not. RFC2, the third-largest subunit, plays a key role in DNA replication and checkpoint function.
