Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Mnk1 only when phosphorylated at Thr250/255.

Target Information

The MAP kinase-interacting kinases (MKNK1 and MKNK2) are activated by MAP kinases and regulate protein synthesis by phosphorylating eIF4E on Ser209. They may contribute to tumorigenesis. Overexpression of Mnk2 increases phosphorylation of endogenous eIF-4E, indicating its role as an eIF-4E kinase in vivo. Mnk2 may also play a role in responses to environmental stress and cytokines. Expression of active mutants of MNK1 and MNK2 in 293 cells reduces cap-dependent translation relative to cap-independent translation. Human Mnk2 is 94% identical to murine Mnk2 and 71% identical to human Mnk1. In vitro phosphorylation studies show Mnk2 is a better substrate than Mnk1 for Erk2, p38MAPKα, and p38MAPKβ.
