Target Information
The AGT gene encodes pre-angiotensinogen (angiotensinogen precursor), primarily expressed in the liver. It is cleaved by renin to form angiotensin I, which is further processed by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to produce angiotensin II, a key regulator of blood pressure.
Mutations in AGT are linked to essential hypertension, renal tubular dysgenesis, atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease.
