Target Information
The AGT gene encodes pre-angiotensinogen (angiotensinogen precursor), a liver-expressed protein cleaved by renin in response to low blood pressure. The resulting angiotensin I is further processed by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to form angiotensin II, which regulates blood pressure.
Mutations in AGT are linked to essential hypertension, renal tubular dysgenesis, atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease.
