Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Ubiquitin-like molecules (UBLs), such as SUMO1, are structurally related to ubiquitin and can be ligated to target proteins in a similar manner. Unlike ubiquitin, covalent attachment of UBLs does not lead to degradation of modified proteins. SUMO1 modification is involved in the targeting of RANGAP1 to the nuclear pore complex and stabilization of I-kappa-B-alpha from degradation by the 26S proteasome.
UBLs are synthesized as precursor proteins and require removal of tail sequences by UBL-specific proteases such as SENP6 before conjugation to target proteins. SENP6 also exhibits isopeptidase activity for deconjugation of SUMO-conjugated substrates.
