Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD279 / PD-1 (programmed cell death 1), a 55 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed primarily during T cell development, and found on activated T cells, B cells, and monocytes.

Target Information

Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). Activated T cells express PD-1 (PDCD-1), which mediates inhibitory signals upon binding to its ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2. These interactions downregulate immune activation in the absence of danger signals. PD-1 deficiency leads to hyperactivated immune responses and autoimmune diseases. Although PD-1 has a predicted molecular weight of 55 kDa, it often migrates at higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
