Target Information
Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that functions as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It is found in cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock factors and immunophilins and translocates to the nucleus upon ligand binding. Expression is observed in various heart tissues, including atria, ventricles, aorta, and septum.
Alternate splicing and promoter usage produce multiple transcript variants. Mutations in NR3C1 are associated with glucocorticoid resistance. GR interacts with chaperone proteins for ligand activation and binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity.
