Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a nuclear hormone receptor for triiodothyronine. It mediates the biological activities of thyroid hormone and may have distinct functions among receptor subtypes. Mutations in this gene can cause generalized thyroid hormone resistance (GTHR), characterized by goiter and elevated T3/T4 with normal or slightly increased TSH. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
