Product Specific Information
Antibody detects endogenous levels of total PRKAA2.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a catalytic subunit of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits. It acts as an energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. Upon metabolic stress, AMPK becomes activated and phosphorylates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key regulators of fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis. Studies in mice suggest this subunit controls insulin sensitivity and myocardial energy homeostasis during ischemia.
