Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with Cyclin T1, regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin T1 and facilitates promoter recognition of transcription factors. CDK9 promotes RNA synthesis involved in cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/cyclin-K complex also phosphorylates the CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 may lead to cardiac hypertrophy and predisposition to heart failure.
