Target Information
CD9 antigen is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of developing B lymphocytes, platelets, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, stimulated T lymphocytes, neurons, and glial cells.
CD9 belongs to the tetraspanin family, crossing the membrane four times. It regulates cell activation and aggregation through association with integrins (CD41/CD61).
Functions include:
- Cell motility and adhesion
- Osteoclastogenesis and neurite outgrowth
- Myotube formation and sperm-egg fusion
- Association with MHC II molecules on dendritic cells for T cell stimulation
CD9 expression plays a key role in suppression of cancer cell motility and metastasis and is considered a metastasis suppressor in solid tumors.
