Target Information
HCN1 (Hyperpolarization-activated cation channel 1) is part of the HCN gene family contributing to rhythmic activity in heart and brain.
HCN1 channels are activated by hyperpolarization and regulated by cyclic nucleotides. They play key roles in motor learning, neuronal integration, and autonomous neuronal activity.
Expression is enriched in cerebral cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and facial motor nucleus.
HCN2 is abundant in mamillary bodies, pontine nucleus, ventral cochlear nucleus, and nucleus of the trapezoid body.
Regional specificity of HCN channels may lead to differences in neuronal pacemaker activity across brain systems.
