Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Compromised spindle checkpoints are thought to contribute to genetic instability and malignant transformation. Human cells contain two related checkpoint protein kinases derived from the BUB1 gene: hBUBR1 and hBUB1. Both monitor mitotic kinetochore–microtubule interactions, and hBUBR1 is essential for preventing premature anaphase entry. BUBR1 has been detected in various human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1, which may accelerate breast cancer progression by compromising mitotic checkpoint control.
