Target Information
CCDC22 is a coiled-coil domain-containing protein that binds copines, which are calcium-dependent, membrane-binding proteins potentially involved in calcium signaling.
In rats, CCDC22 localizes in multiple brain regions, including the prefrontal and somatosensory cortex, dentate gyrus, and thalamus, and in ipsilateral motor neurons after sciatic nerve transection, suggesting a role in neuronal injury response.
The human CCDC22 gene is a candidate gene for syndromic X-linked intellectual disability (XLID).
