Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins containing two EF-hand motifs. S100 proteins are found in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and are involved in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation.
S100 genes are clustered on chromosome 1q21 and include at least 13 members.
This protein may play roles in motility, invasion, and tubulin polymerization. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression have been implicated in tumor metastasis. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
