Target Information

CCL4 (macrophage inflammatory protein 1-beta, MIP-1β) belongs to the chemokine CC family. It plays a role in chemotaxis, inflammation, and immune homeostasis.
CCL4 is produced by macrophages, lymphocytes, and dendritic cells in response to bacterial endotoxins. It recruits various inflammatory cells to infection sites and regulates their activation states.
Both CCL4 and CCL3 are involved in host defense against pathogens by guiding immune cell trafficking. While both affect monocytes similarly, CCL4 preferentially attracts CD4+ lymphocytes, whereas CCL3 attracts CD8+ lymphocytes.
CCL4 also acts as a chemoattractant for B cells, eosinophils, and dendritic cells. Its processed form can downregulate CCR5 receptor expression, inhibiting CCR5-mediated HIV-1 entry into T cells.
CCL4 binds with high affinity to CCR5 receptors.
