TWEAK은 TNF 계열에 속하는 단백질로, 약한 세포사멸 유도 인자로 처음 보고되었습니다. 이후 TWEAK 수용체(TweakR)는 HUVEC 세포 cDNA 라이브러리에서 발현 클로닝을 통해 분리되었습니다. TweakR은 TNF 수용체 초가족에 속하는 작은 단백질로, TRAF1, TRAF2, TRAF3와 결합하여 증식 신호를 유도할 수 있습니다. 또한 대동맥 및 간 조직 재생 시 TweakR mRNA 발현이 증가하며, 혈관세포 이동 및 혈관신생에도 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
