Target Information
PDGFRA (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor can form homodimers or heterodimers with PDGFRB, depending on the ligand. Knockout mouse studies show PDGFRA is critical for kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective kidney phenotypes.
