Target Information

CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein belonging to the tetraspanin family. It is found in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types, as well as in the plasma membrane following cell activation.
CD63 serves as a basophil activation marker and interacts with integrins, influencing phagocytosis and cell migration. It is also involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation, and functions as a T-cell costimulation molecule.
Expression of CD63 can be used as a prognostic marker in early-stage carcinomas. It is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, and macrophages, and weakly expressed on granulocytes, B cells, and T cells.
CD63 is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and the platelet antigen PTLGP40.
Diseases associated with CD63 dysfunction include melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
