Target Information
Members of the mTERF (mitochondrial transcription termination factor) family are mitochondrial proteins believed to function as transcription termination factors.
MTERFD1 consists of three leucine zippers forming a three-stranded coiled-coil that binds DNA. It binds promoter DNA and acts as a mitochondrial transcription regulator.
Only the phosphorylated form of MTERFD1 is suggested to have transcription termination activity.
A related mTERF family member, MTERFD3, is believed to regulate cell cycle and growth by modulating mitochondrial transcription.
