Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif known as the F-box. F-box proteins are one of the four subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex (SCFs: SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are divided into three classes:
- Fbws containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs containing various protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXL5 protein belongs to the Fbls class and includes several tandem leucine-rich repeats in addition to an F-box. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants.
